We Work For Health Calls for Support of Medical Research and Innovation in Maryland

We Work for Health of Maryland, a coalition of local business, labor, academic, and health care groups concerned with protecting and growing medical research and innovation in Maryland and the U.S., was introduced yesterday.

The group recognizes the biopharmaceutical industry’s positive contributions to Maryland’s economy, quality of life, and the health of its citizens.

According to a recent study by Archstone Consulting, biopharmaceutical companies supported a total of 89,675 jobs in Maryland in 2006 and provided an estimated $537.4 million in federal taxes and $86.4 million in state taxes that year. Click here to view a PDF with more information from the study.

“We stand together with our community partners to educate our elected leaders on critical public policy issues that allow our sector and the surrounding community to thrive so that together we can lead in the research and development of new cures to improve the quality of life of millions of Americans, that we can invest effectively in our communities, our patients, our employees, and our business and community partners, and give access to products and services that can improve the health of patients in Maryland, the U.S. and around the world,” Executive Director of the Mid-Atlantic Association of Community Health Centers and We Work for Health of Maryland Advisory Board Member Miguel McInnis said.
