Treasury Delays W-2 Reporting of Health Benefits

The U.S. Treasury Department and the IRS announced this week that employer reporting of health benefits on W-2s issued for calendar year 2011 (issued in January of 2012) will be optional.  The deferral of this new requirement under the federal health care law was made to allow employers more time to make changes to payroll systems and procedures.  It is expected that the W-2 reporting requirement will be implemented for calendar year 2012 benefits.
