Survey Notes Health Insurance Rate Increases
The first year under the federal healthcare reform law saw average premiums for family health insurance coverage increase by 9 percent, as compared to 3 percent for the prior year. The annual survey of employer health benefits released by the Kaiser Family Foundation this week evaluated the attributes of health benefit plans of 2,088 public and private employers. The survey found increasing use of cost sharing (deductibles, co-pays, coinsurance) with employees, and a doubling of the percentage (to 17 percent) of the number of employees in high deductible health plans with savings options over the past 2 years.
