Stormwater Management Bill Passes the House
The stormwater management legislation, HB 1125, was passed out of the House of Delegates by a vote of 127-13 and is now awaiting a hearing by the Senate Education, Health and Environmental Affairs Committee.
The House acted because the proposed compromise regulations that were agreed to by impacted stakeholders were expected to be delayed or significantly altered by the Joint Committee on Administrative, Executive and Legislative Review (AELR).
The compromise reached by developers, environmentalists and government officials addresses some of the concerns regarding the new stormwater management regulations set to take effect this year. The agreement will give developers more time to complete their projects before having to meet the new, stricter stormwater management rules. The compromise would “grandfather” some additional projects that were already in the planning pipeline. It would also give developers additional flexibility for redevelopment projects in designated growth areas.
The Senate Education, Health and Environmental Affairs Committee will hear the bill on April 6 at 1 p.m. Concerned businesses should contact members of the committee to encourage them to support the bill.
