State/Local Fiscal Task Force Holds First Meeting
In the shadow of large and growing state budget deficits, the Joint Legislative Workgroup to Study State, County, and Municipal Fiscal Relationships held their first meeting last week. The legislative workgroup was appointed by the House Speaker and Senate President in order to conduct a comprehensive review of state aid to local governments and local taxing authority.
Several briefing reports were delivered by the Department of Legislative Services regarding local government structure, spending and revenue trends. The workgroup will meet every two weeks through mid-December, and continue next interim. See the Task Force website here.
