Small Employers Abandoning Health Insurance
Maryland small employers continued to abandon the small group health insurance market last year according to statistics released by the Maryland Health Care Commission. In 2010 there was a net loss of over 3,000 small employers offering small group coverage – a 6.3% decline from 2009. The agency estimated that only 35% of eligible small employers offered small group coverage last year, down from nearly 40% two years ago. High deductible HMOs and HMO/HSA options showed market stability despite major price increases. See the report here.
