Sen. Mikulski Asks For Examples of How EFCA Would Impact Business

During the Maryland Chamber’s Congressional Delegation Dinner earlier this week, Senator Barbara Mikulski asked business people in attendance to provide her with real world examples of how the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) would impact their businesses. The controversial bill is expected to be reintroduced this session.

Discussing a meeting she had with Chamber members to discuss EFCA last week, Mikulski said, “I asked for anecdotes about real world applications about what this would mean. I like case examples. I like to wrap my head around it, not in some abstract way, but in real world applications.”

She encouraged business people to keep an eye on the debate in the U.S. Senate to see how the proposal changes as it makes its way through the committee and onto the Senate floor. Once everyone has a better idea of what exactly the Senate will be voting on, Sen. Mikulski promised to review that proposal with members of the Maryland Chamber.

You can view some of Sen. Mikulski’s remarks below. If you are willing to share your story about how the EFCA could impact your business, please contact Allyson Black at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

We need lots of examples of how this bill would impact employers - large and small.  Both Senators Mikulski and Cardin have promised they would listen to our concerns about the loss of the secret ballot, binding arbitration issues and balancing penalties in the proposed bill.  Your viewpoint is critical.  Please let us know how this bill would impact your company’s future - it will make a difference!
