Public Policy Committees Power the Chamber

This week, we passed the century mark. The Maryland Chamber’s Legislative Committee has taken positions on more than 100 bills. We usually end up with around 150 bill positions, but that’s just the ones the Legislative Committee acts on. There are countless others reviewed by the volunteers on Chamber’s various public policy committees.

We wanted to take a minute to say thank you to all the dedicated volunteers who serve on these committees. They take time away from their companies and organizations to help make the Maryland Chamber’s advocacy efforts stronger.

There are 48 members of the Legislative Committee, and it meets face-to-face every Monday. Members from Cecil County (Cecil County Chamber’s Laura Mayse) to Garrett County (Lakeside Creamery’s Bill Meagher), and everywhere in between, come to Annapolis every Monday afternoon. There are six issue committees: Civil Liability, Employment Issues, Environment, Health Care, Tax Policy and Transportation. Many of these committees meet weekly as well, whether in person or via conference call.

Our public policy volunteers help shape the Chamber’s annual Business Agenda, and they help staff review key business bills. The Maryland Chamber thanks these volunteers for all they do. Below is a short video with Legislative Committee Chair Pegeen Townsend of MedStar Health giving an overview of the committee.
