Legislative Leaders Urge Business People to Get More Involved

During Business Day’s Leadership Briefing last week, the Maryland General Assembly’s presiding officers urged business people to develop a relationship with their lawmakers and make sure their employees are registered to vote.

“It astounds me sometimes that, when you have your business which is at risk, and the outcome of that can be determined by the Maryland General Assembly and by the government, how many people do not have relationships with their individual elected officials,” House Speaker Michael Busch said.

“In terms of workforce regulation, this is where the chamber is going to have to be on the most guard. There are going to be a number of issues,” Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller said. “If you want to have an impact and your views known. Make sure your employees are registered to vote. You might not live in Baltimore City or Prince George’s County, but if you have your employee, who is registered to vote, call this person and say, ‘I’m a registered voter and I care how you vote on this issue because my job depends upon it. It’s very important.”
