Health Exchange Board Off to Fast Start

The Maryland Health Benefit Exchange Board started to reshape Maryland’s health insurance market at a fast paced organizational meeting last Friday. The nine-member Board faces daunting state and federal deadlines to establish a functional health insurance exchange by January 1, 2014. At its first meeting the Board adopted bylaws, established a Recruitment Committee to lead the search for an Executive Director and key staff, and adopted interim procurement guidelines for seven legislatively required studies that must be completed by December 23. Tom Saquella, the employer representative on the Board, will chair a committee overseeing the organization of advisory committees. See the website of the Exchange for additional materials here.

The next meeting of the Board will be on June 27. The Board will be acting quickly to meet its deadlines, so anyone interested in serving on Exchange advisory committees or the study procurements should contact Ron Wineholt at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
