Frustration Over Stormwater Regulations
Many developers and local government representatives have raised concerns about new stormwater runoff regulations set to take effect in May 2010.
The regulations, which were introduced by the Maryland Department of the Environment last year as a result of legislation passed in 2007, include a grandfather clause that allows projects that have received final approval by May 2010 and redevelopment projects to follow current regulations. Projects that are in the pipeline for final approval are not included in the grandfather clause. Read more about the grandfather clause issue in a recent letter to the editor in The Baltimore Sun written by Michael C. Powell, chairman of the environmental and energy law department of Gordon Feinblatt.
