DLS Study Evaluates Living Wage Law Costs
The Department of Legislative Services released an evaluation of the Maryland living wage law, which requires businesses to pay specified wage levels on state service contracts. Based on a detailed examination of eight service contracts, the report found little negative impact on the competitiveness of state procurements and few complaints from vendors on compliance requirements. However, the sampled contracts did reflect an average increase in wage costs passed on to the state of 13 to 25 percent. To view the report, click here (pdf).
