Chamber Supports “Fast Tracking” Bill

Delegate Mary-Dulany James introduced the “Fast Tracking” bill, which is an emergency bill that would require the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) and the State Highway Administration (SHA) to develop and implement processes to expedite the approval of State permits for construction and development projects that have received “fast track” or similar status from a county, or will create a significant number of jobs and have a positive economic impact on the State.

The Maryland Chamber supports this bill, HB 474. The production of a streamlined and expedited permitting process for construction and development projects is the type of initiative needed to retain, attract and expand economic development in Maryland.

“This is a good economic development bill that promotes job creation and business expansion and productivity,” Maryland Chamber’s Vice-President of Government Affairs, Allyson Black said. The Chamber supports fast tracking permits, not only for construction and development, but for business needs overall to efficiently save time and costs.
