Chamber Seeks Semiannual Property Tax Payment Option for Small Business

For the past decade, owners of residential, owner-occupied property have had the option to pay their real property taxes in two installments. The Maryland Chamber is seeking passage of legislation that would extend the semiannual payment option to small businesses.

With the Maryland Chamber’s input, Del. Donald Elliott (R-Dist. 4B) introduced legislation to allow owners of commercial real property with an annual property tax bill of less than $50,000 to pay their property tax in semiannual payments.

“At a time when many small businesses are struggling to keep their doors open, this bill would help businesses with their cash flow by not having to pay a large property tax bill in one payment,” said Maryland Chamber Vice President of Government Affairs Ron Wineholt.

The bill, HB 428, will be heard by the House Ways & Means Committee on Wednesday, February 18. For more information, contact Ron Wineholt at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
