Budget Committees Briefed on Cuts
The General Assembly’s budget committees received a briefing today on the impact of the last round of state budget cuts and the need to rebalance the state budget as state revenues continue to lag below estimates. Warren Deschenaux, the legislature’s chief fiscal advisor, noted that less than $150 million of the budget cuts approved by the Board of Public Works last month will carry over to future fiscal years, leaving an ongoing budget gap of $1.5 to $2 billion annually. State budget Secretary Eloise Foster said that the Governor would bring another $470 million in current year budget cuts to the Board of Public Works on August 26, likely impacting local aid and state employees.
