Bill Would Speed Up Permitting Process

Del. Mary-Dulany James (D-Dist. 34A) introduced legislation (HB 474) that would establish an expedited permitting process for development projects that have been approved and fast tracked by county governments.

“The creation of a streamlined and expedited permitting process for construction and development projects is exactly the type of initiative needed to retain, attract and expand economic development throughout Maryland,” Maryland Chamber Vice President of Government Affairs Allyson Black said.

Local governments play a primary role in enforcing state building and construction codes. Some local governments have established processes to speed up the review and approval of various types of permits.

The bill would require the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) and the State Highway Administration (SHA) to develop and implement processes to expedite the approval of permits for construction and development projects that have received “fast track” or similar status from a county or will create a significant number of jobs and have a positive economic impact on the state.

The Maryland Chamber strongly supports this bill. For more information contact Allyson Black at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
