Bill Would Require Employers to Pay Employees for Jury Duty
The House Judiciary Committee will hear legislation on March 17 that would require Maryland employers to compensate employees for time spent on jury duty.
The bill, HB 1320, would mandate that employers to pay employees their average daily compensation, less any government per diem, for each day they are called for jury service. Employers who failed to do so would face a fine of up to $1,000.
The Maryland Chamber opposes this bill. Any financial hardship caused by jury service is the result of the government’s action, not that of the employer. For more information, contact Allyson Black at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
