Bill Would Raise Minimum Wage to $10 in 2013

Senate Majority Leader Robert Garagiola (D-Dist 15) will introduce legislation to increase Maryland’s minimum to $8.25 next year and $10 per hour in 2013. The bill would also index it to inflation after 2013.

The Maryland Chamber will oppose this proposal. Given the state of the economy, we believe the General Assembly should focus on enhancing Maryland’s business climate and encouraging job growth. “Small businesses in Maryland are facing enough challenges,” Maryland Chamber President & CEO Kathy Snyder, CCE said. “During difficult economic times, we shouldn’t be imposing additional costs onto small businesses that are already struggling.”

We haven’t seen the bill yet, but we’ll post more information once it’s available. If this is an issue that impacts your business, or if you have any questions, contact Allyson Black at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
