April 22: Employee Free Choice Act Webinar
The Maryland Chamber of Commerce is pleased to partner with Shawe Rosenthal, LLP to present a webinar on the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) on Wednesday, April 22, at 10 a.m.
On March 10, 2009 the Democratic leadership introduced into both the House and Senate the EFCA, which would substitute a “card check” for a secret ballot election as the method to determine whether a union should be certified as the employees’ collective bargaining representative. President Obama has endorsed the EFCA, and organized labor is spending millions to lobby for its passage. While the opponents of this legislation believe that they have enough support in the Senate to block consideration of the proposed legislation, it is too soon to claim victory. Some business leaders and members of Congress are supporting compromise proposals to make it easier for unions to organize, while insisting on retention of the secret ballot.
The Webinar will provide information on the EFCA as well as the compromise proposals, an up-to-date briefing on the political situation, and advice on steps companies should take now to prepare for the EFCA or some modified version. Registration is $20 for members of any Chamber Action Network partner and $30 for nonmembers.
