Chamber Supports Development of Natural Gas Resources

Marylanders continue to favor the development of natural gas resources in Western Maryland, according to a recent telephone poll conducted by Gonzales Research & Marketing Strategies for the Maryland Petroleum Council (MPC).

“Marylanders, like Americans everywhere, are feeling the impact of high energy costs and strongly support increasing development of domestic clean-burning natural gas,” said Drew Cobbs, executive director of the MPC.  “We urge Governor O’Malley to end his three-year de facto moratorium on drilling for natural gas in the Marcellus Shale in Western Maryland and commit to safely developing this resource. “

The Maryland Chamber believes that by proceeding responsibly, Maryland has the opportunity to play a pivotal role in expanding America’s next generation of domestic clean energy, while boosting Western Maryland’s economy.

The energy industry is committed to working with state officials to safely develop the Marcellus Shale and minimize the environmental impact. The Maryland General Assembly will hear a number of bills over the next few weeks related to the issue. We’ll keep you updated.
